Alex J. Vopat is a Director for MACCO based out of the Houston, TX office. His business expertise encompasses financial modeling, claims reconciliation, operational assessments, strategic turnaround planning, and post-bankruptcy integration.
Alex has represented creditors and debtors within complex engagements involving Chapter 7 & Chapter 11 bankruptcies, out-of-court workouts, and wind-down processes. His contributions consistently enhance operational efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve financial performance.
With over a decade of leadership experience, Alex has played an integral role in steering organizations through financial uncertainty, optimizing operations, and preserving stakeholder value. He has successfully managed post-bankruptcy integration following multi-billion-dollar acquisitions, reducing costs through innovative financial strategies, and negotiating critical agreements with creditors and equity partners. Alex has provided operational, analytical and compliance expertise to ensure regulatory approval and project success.
Prior to MACCO, Alex held senior leadership roles at an internationally recognized offshore oil and gas drilling contractors. He is a CPA candidate and holds dual degrees in Accounting and Finance from Illinois State University. He is an active member of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI) and the Turnaround Management Association (TMA).
Notable Assignments
As Capital Asset Manager, directed financial and operational oversight for one of the world’s largest offshore oil and gas drilling contractors. Managed multi-million-dollar budgets, optimized capital expenditures, and led post-bankruptcy integrations following major acquisitions. Collaborated with key operators, including Exxon, Shell, and Hess, to secure regulatory approvals and drilling permits.
As Financial Advisor, appointed to the Trustee for a Chapter 11 Oil & Gas Operator, undertook restructuring implementation by evaluating lease operating statements, joint operating agreements, and reconstructed the financial statements to assess on-going concerns. Developed strategic exit plans, negotiated asset sales, and coordinated with the trustee and creditors to maximize value.
As Financial Advisor during an Out-of-Court Restructuring engagement, delivered financial advisory services to the CRO, addressing inefficiencies, creating financial tracking systems, and stabilizing cash flow.
