Brent Mills, Managing Director & General Counsel
Brent Mills is a Managing Director and General Counsel to MACCO, resident in Oklahoma comprising both Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices. He is a licensed attorney with over 30 years of transactional, M&A, divestiture and investment banking experience, with significant debt restructuring. This includes a vast understanding of international business. Brent has negotiated complex contracts and agreements exceeding $1.0 billion in China, India, Russia, Mexico, France and Latin America.
Brent provides perspective, leadership and invaluable expertise to the challenge of advising companies in operational or financial peril and profit improvement. He has held numerous positions with various public and private corporations, notably the University of Oklahoma, where he served under the direct leadership of former President David L. Boren and established the Office of Technology Transfer (“OTT”) that included acting as its inaugural Director. To fully develop this position, the Oklahoma State Constitution was amended under his leadership and that of other state political leaders. This OTT remains an economic engine for the University.
Prior to MACCO, Brent was a partner in the transactional and corporate department of Phillips Murrah, a premier Midwestern law firm. He then pursued private business interests and served as general counsel to a drilling services company. Brent earned his BBA in Accounting and Finance and his Juris Doctorate from The University of Oklahoma.
Notable Assignments
Acting as a Manager and General Counsel of an international drilling services company, Brent negotiated agreements totaling in excess of $1.0 billion involving multinational oilfield service companies and foreign sovereigns. He was responsible for relations with the equity investors, the senior secured lender as well as vendors and employees, addressing the many complicated domestic and international legal, capital and labor challenges of the organization.
Acting as the Chairman and current Director of a federally insured financial institution, Brent led the team that acquired, grew and quadrupled the capital stack of the Bank in less than 7 years. His actions and leadership contributed to the significant growth and security of the institution. Throughout his tenure he provided counsel to the Bank on matters ranging from capital campaigns to lending and foreclosures to shareholder relations.
Serving as the Team Leader for a private equity syndicate, Brent led the efforts to acquire, capitalize and grow the holdings of a Title IV eligible organization with offices and employees in 4 states with several hundred employees and an ESOP.
