Jerry Thompson, Managing Director
Jerry Thompson is a Managing Director for MACCO based out of the Houston, TX. office. His business experience incorporates a multi-layered understanding and ability to evaluate structured finance transactions from a practical standpoint, notably in upstream exploration, production, and oil field service companies. Jerry has managed $3 billion in client transactions and conducted balance sheet and operational restructuring to successfully reorganize distressed investments. He has led multi-disciplined teams through due diligence, structuring and execution of over $2 billion in oil & gas structured debt and equity transactions.
A professional engineer by training, Jerry began his career in mechanical reliability and project engineering roles within the chemical & refining industries. His financial acumen, restructuring expertise and practiced team and collaborative approach are gained from in-depth experience working with a wide variety of industries, public and private.
Prior to MACCO, Jerry was a Managing Director at a large Australian merchant bank for 14
years, focused on both debt and equity investments in the energy sector. Jerry earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Iowa and his MBA from The Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University.
Notable Assignments
Led the negotiation and closing of rescue financing for a publicly traded Cannabis CPG company in a highly successful 6-month turnaround.
Served as FA to the Trustee in a Sub-Chapter V case involving a biomass pilot plant as Debtor. Managed plant operations through a winter storm and a subsequent COVID outbreak. Solicited DIP Lenders and assisted in negotiations on DIP Loan terms; solicited and evaluated proposals leading to selection of an investment bank; and assisted in ultimate 363 sale of the assets.
Led a collateral analysis and credit evaluation of an upstream oil & gas borrower for a US-based bank workout group.
In a supervisory role for a distressed, $75M structured debt investment of a private, Denver-based oil & gas company, managed internal and external counsel, provided guidance and advice to the external CRO leading the company through a chapter 11 bankruptcy, resulting in the successful sale of assets and ultimate recovery of original investment.
